In
this
program a range of old, rare and beautiful
toys that use light and/or sound are demonstrated. It includes a toy music box over 100 years old, a tin toy wind-up gramophone from the 1920s, a zoetrope from the 1870s, various thaumotropes, kaleidoscopes, and stereoscopes. In each case the science behind the working of the toys is explained. The sources of the energy used by the toys (springs, batteries, hand power, gravity, etc.) is illustrated. Many other light and sound toys are available for hands-on activities. |
