SCIENTIFIC LITERACY
Most people are unlikely ever to be producers of new scientific knowledge. But all of us, as citizens, need to be informed users and consumers of scientific knowledge.

Our Goals for 2013/2014

To offer Science based School Holiday Programs in country (rural) locations as well as in the metropolitan area.

To offer Science Programs to schools in
country (rural) locations as well as in the metropolitan area.

To offer Science Professional Development programs, especially programs for primary school teachers.

To present talks based on Western Australia's technological heritage to various groups.

To establish the Light and Sound Discovery Centre as a successor to the Fremantle Light and Sound Discovery Centre.

To develop the Museum of Early Western Australian Recorded Sound as a significant heritage research facility.

To update and re-publish the booklet Dating Australian Gramophone Records from the design of their labels.

Our Goals for 2009/2012

To present school holiday programs for the Wireless Hill Telecommunications Museum.

To present Science Programs to various schools.

To present Science Programs to various groups (e.g. Scout groups, Cubs groups, etc.)

To present talks and exhibitions to various adult groups (Seniors Clubs, etc.)

To complete research for the Encyclopedia of Western Australian Wirelesses and Gramophones.

To publish the Encyclopedia of Western Australian Wirelesses and Gramophones.

To establish the Museum of Early Western Australian Recorded Sound.


Our Goals for 2007/2008

To enlarge the target audience to encompass a wider range of visitors. For example to offer programs for groups of blind children.

To modify the range of programs available by introducing several new programs, such as Radio Radio (Electronics), Mirrors and Reflection, and Colour.

To present a wider range of School Holidays Programs, with emphasis on presenting more challenging activities (such as making a Toilet roll Radio, a Spectroscope or a Phenakistoscope.

To offer school holiday programs with sessions specifically set aside for older (high school aged) children.

To offer school holiday programs on selected days specifically for family groups, with parents invited to participate.

To work with institutions such as the Perth International Study Centre, to present programs for adolescent ESL students.

To present a series of at least 3 (possibly 4) significant exhibitions each year.

To assist other museums with advice and with loan objects (for example Australian Museum of Motion Picture technology)

To make presentations (lectures and/or workshops) at FotoFreo 2008 (Fremantle's International Photography Festival).

To offer a special Gramophone Information Day in 2008 where visitors can bring in their gramophone or phonograph for advice.

To assist the Fremantle History Museum to play a significant role in the provision of educational programs.

To provide public presentations that support various community events such as Seniors Week, Science Week, Anzac Day, Heritage Festivals, etc.

The Fremantle Light and Sound Discovery Centre in Western Australia aims to become a science and technology museum with a national reputation, whilst contributing to and supporting science education in Western Australia.

Our Goals for 2005/2006

T
o re-structure the centre, so as to be able to accommodate a full (normal) size class. (Previously the size of the space available limited the size of visiting classes to about 16 - 20 students.)

To increase the range of hands-on activities available, in order to cater of the larger class sizes that can now be accommodated.

To increase the number of educational programs offered in the Fremantle Light and Sound Discovery Centre to twenty five.

To place special emphasis on the providing of educational programs for Home Schooling Groups.

To work with teacher training institutions (such as E.C.U.) by presenting  professional development programs which encourage the teaching of Science in primary schools.

To make presentations at Science Teachers conferences (such as PRISSEM and CONSTAWA) in order to provide professional development for teachers, as well as to publicize the programs offered by the Fremantle Light and Sound Discovery Centre.

To present a series of significant exhibitions (for example 3D - An 'In-depth' Exhibition of Stereoscopic Images and Gadgets).

To mark significant anniversaries in 2005 by the presentation of special exhibitions (such as for the 110th anniversary of the Cinema, the 70th anniversary of the tape recorder, etc.).

To assist the Fremantle History Museum to play a significant role in the provision of educational programs.

To provide public presentations that support various community events such as Seniors Week, Science Week, Anzac Day, Heritage Festivals, etc.

To be a source
of expert information about historical light and sound technology, especially in area of helping to preserve Western Australia’s technological heritage.

Our Goals for 2004


To establish the Fremantle Light and Sound Discovery Centre at a suitable venue, building on the success of FlashBack Bytes in 2003.

To continue to provide real contexts for science learning, catering for students from pre-school through to university.

To extend the range of quality hands-on activities, and to refine its presentations to suit the needs of schools.

To be a major tourist attraction, providing unique experiences for the casual visitor as well as catering for the tour groups.

To be a source of professional development for science teachers, both for experienced teachers and for new graduates.

To expand the museum's role as a provider of experiences for senior citizens.

To provide public presentations that support various community events such as Seniors Week, Science Week, Anzac Day, Heritage Festivals, etc.

For the collector and the historian, to continue to be a source of expert information about light and sound technology. Its web site will continue to provide both technological and educational information.

The Fremantle Light and Sound Discovery Centre’s role in helping to preserve Western Australia’s technological heritage, will be extended with the publication next year of a major book titled Western Australian Wirelesses and Gramophones.

The
